BPM’s jazz arm bids farewell to jazz legend and composer Dave Brubeck. We’re always writing about our eight piece band, but we’re jazz heads, too. A prolific innovator over a career spanning six decades, Dave Brubeck was still working until 2011 (at the age of 91!). Some of his well known songs include Time Out, Blue Rondo a la Turk, Take Five. He was known for bringing together jazz and classical music, and making stands for social justice. I was lucky to hear Dave Brubeck play with his quartet in the ’80s at the Blue Note in NYC – fabulous! From his obituary from the New York Times, he was quoted as saying “One of the reasons I believe in jazz is that the oneness of man can come through the rhythm of your heart. It’s the same anyplace in the world, that heart beat. It’s the first thing you hear when you’re born — or before you’re born — and it’s the last thing you hear.” We get that. Thank you for the legacy that you leave behind. Rest in peace, Dave Brubeck…
