My husband and I recently went to see the band Cake perform at Lupo’s in Providence, RI (cool venue). My friend, Kim, turned me on to Cake years ago, and I grew to adore their quirky songs. I loved singing along (badly…but who cares) to their CD “Comfort Eagle” when I was cooking in the kitchen. Then along came my husband-to-be, and the new norm now included Rob and me dancing together to Cake while preparing dinner.
So when it came time to plan our wedding, picking our First Dance was a no-brainer: we selected Cake’s song, “Love You Madly,” for our first dance as husband and wife. The above pic is us on our happy day. Photo credit goes to Carol Lundeen, our award winning wedding photographer.
Back to the concert: that night, not only did I discover that Cake was a fabulous band to see live (they give away a tree to one lucky person — not me — at every show), but also they played OUR song! I jumped for joy as I sang along with the crowd to “Love You Madly.” And you know…after almost seven years of marriage and the day to day busyness of raising an active 3 year old boy, it was so nice to dance to our song with my husband once again 😉
Anyone care to share the story behind their first dance song?
